How to find your way around in Helsinki?
If you want to extend your exploration outside city central, capital area has very good public transport system, extending to Espoo, Vantaa, Kerava, Tuusula, Järvenpää and Sipoo. There is e.g. Nuuksio nature conservation area less than hour distance from city. In city there is also city bikes and electric kickboards for rent.
You can use the same HSL ticket system for traveling in local bus network, tram in city center area, local trains, subway and even Suomenlinna ferry. We strongly recommend using HSL app, which provides you tickets and reliable routing app in same packet. Download it before traveling, add your credit/debit card and you’re good to go!
Helsinki is pricey, where could I sleep?
Hotels are easiest to find via commercial channels e.g. Booking.com or Hotels.com and there is plenty AirBnB apartments throughout the city.
If you are looking for more basic stay nearest camping area with cottages and tent/caravan sites is in Rastila, which is comfortably located withing walking distance from Rastila subway station. There is multiple camping areas also in Espoo and caravan park in Vantaa.
Finland has good traffic network, so it’s definitely an option to find another city where to spend the night. Hotels in Espoo or Vantaa for example might be much cheaper, and if you want to combine your visit to Helsinki with another part of the country (and more unique portals!), it’s a good opportunity to plan your trip further.
